Warm up this season inside Longwood Garden’s vast conservatory, which transforms into a tropical paradise for its annual Orchid Extravaganza.

 

Votes for Women: A Visual History

Feb. 1 – June 7, Chadds Ford, Pa.

Exploring the visual culture of the women’s suffrage movement in the United States, the Brandywine River Museum of Art’s latest exhibit, Votes for Women: A Visual History, is full of photographs from marches and rallies, plus sample costumes, sashes and clothing worn by suffragettes. The exhibit is all the more significant as this year marks the 100thanniversary of American women gaining the right to vote.

 

Paint Out Chadds Ford

Feb. 6-8, Chadds Ford, Pa.

Held each February by the Chadds Ford Historical Society, artists paint iconic historic spots and scenery en plein air, which are then displayed during a reception on Feb. 8.

 

Outside Mullingar

Feb. 12 – March 1, Wilmington, Del.

Travel to rural Ireland by way of Delaware this month as the Delaware Theatre Company performs Outside Mullingar. The Tony Award-nominated play has something for everyone thanks to drama, romance and dark humor.

 

Delaware Dance Festival

Feb. 16, Wilmington, Del.

Celebrating dance in the first state, the Delaware Dance Festival returns for its 27thyear. This year’s festival takes place at Copeland Hall at the Grand Opera House.

 

Hockessin Art Festival

Feb. 21-23, Hockessin, Del.

Now in its 19thyear, the Hockessin Art Festival returns for three days to the Hockessin Memorial Hall. Featuring over 20 local artists who work in a variety of mediums, the event benefits the Wilmington & Western Railroad. On Friday, Feb. 21, enjoy a preview party with light hors d’oeuvres, or take a train ride before or after the exhibition on Saturday and Sunday.

 

Chester County Home Show

Feb. 22, Downingtown, Pa.

Need some home design inspiration? Industry leaders in various building and decorating related fields will gather at the Chester County Home Show, hosted at Chester County Technical College.

 

Philadelphia Flower Show

Re-Vision 20/20: Through a Woman’s Lens

Winterthur’s latest exhibit celebrates the 100thanniversary of the 19thamendment, in which women won the right to vote. Turning the lens on its impressive collection, the museum will examine artifacts and more from a woman’s perspective. Curator-led walks will be held on the first Tuesday of each month at 2 p.m.
