Exploring the visual culture of the women’s suffrage movement in the United States, the Brandywine River Museum of Art’s latest exhibit, Votes for Women: A Visual History, is full of photographs from marches and rallies, plus sample costumes, sashes and clothing worn by suffragettes. The exhibit is all the more significant as this year marks the 100thanniversary of American women gaining the right to vote.

Held each February by the Chadds Ford Historical Society, artists paint iconic historic spots and scenery en plein air, which are then displayed during a reception on Feb. 8.

Travel to rural Ireland by way of Delaware this month as the Delaware Theatre Company performs Outside Mullingar. The Tony Award-nominated play has something for everyone thanks to drama, romance and dark humor.

Celebrating dance in the first state, the Delaware Dance Festival returns for its 27thyear. This year’s festival takes place at Copeland Hall at the Grand Opera House.
Feb. 21-23, Hockessin, Del.
Now in its 19thyear, the Hockessin Art Festival returns for three days to the Hockessin Memorial Hall. Featuring over 20 local artists who work in a variety of mediums, the event benefits the Wilmington & Western Railroad. On Friday, Feb. 21, enjoy a preview party with light hors d’oeuvres, or take a train ride before or after the exhibition on Saturday and Sunday.
