Arts Alive at Brandywine Museum

Share

Sundays have gotten more creative thanks to the Brandywine Museum of Art. This past December, the museum announced “First Sundays for Families,” a series of “free, dynamic, hand-on workshops that focus on art in the museum’s collections and exhibitions, from February to August.” No R.S.V.P. is required, just show up and release your creative side.

Arts-Alive-3“First Sundays for Families” is funded by PNC Arts Alive, ” a multi-year initiative of the PNC Foundation, which receives  its principle funding from The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. The goal of PNC Arts Alive is to help area residents gain access to the arts and to help arts organizations expand and engage audiences.”

Each Sunday has a theme for participants to immerse and explore while they create their own piece. Past themes were Artful Animals, with imaginative recreations of barnyard animals and All in the Family, where participants were encouraged to create “one-of-a-kind family portraits” after observing three generations of Wyeth family artists. Other themes will be: “Spring Into Action,” “A Splash of Red,” “Tell Me A Story,” “Shape Escape,” with the final theme being “Summer Art & Nature,” on August 2nd.Arts-Alive-2

Each day participants are encouraged to immerse themselves in the art work on display and then apply the general theme of the day to their own work that day. Artful Animals, the opening day’s theme, was to “explore Jamie Wyeth’s imaginative animal kingdom on view in a major retrospective of his works of art. Then, assemble art inspired by living things found everywhere — from the backyard to the barnyard.” Other artistic applications to be explored are: family portraits, movement, bold color use, story interpretation from voice to canvas, sculpture, and “summer richness.”

Programs begins in the morning, and admission is free until noon. The entire family is encouraged and welcome to attend.
